The Swansea Drugs Project has always recognised that substance misuse services have had an under representation of female drug and alcohol users. The project was one of the first in Wales to develop a service specifically for women, employing a womens worker, and delivering services for female users that were safe, non judgemental and focussing on the needs of women.
Since then, the project has significantly increased its work with women, and with drug using families. Services now include:
- REGULAR PARENTING GROUPS
- COMPREHENSIVE SUPPORT AND LIAISON FOR PREGNANT SUBSTANCE MISUSERS.
- LIAISON AND PARTNERSHIP WORK WITH HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE PROFESSIONALS
“WE DO NOT BELIEVE THAT DRUG USING PARENT NECCESARILY MEAN BAD PARENTS. WE WORK WITH PARENTS TO ENSURE THAT THEIR DRUG USE DOES NOT IMPACT NEGATIVELY ON THE WELFARE OF THEIR CHILD. THE WELFARE OF THE CHILD IS ALWAYS PARAMOUNT” |
